DITRAT-S PROJECT
Research on new electrochemical baths and digitisation devices for sustainable zero-waste surface treatments
GENERAL OBJECTIVE: This industrial research project that we are carrying out together with Maier, Goini, IDS, Ibermática, Ik-Ingeniería and WIT has as its primary objective the research of new green and efficient electrochemical electroplating technology through the digitalisation of the process and new sustainable baths.
AOTECH OBJECTIVES:
AOTECH’s role within the overall project focuses on the research and development of a system that monitors in real time some of the characteristic components of the chemical baths in the electroplating process. These data, in addition to optimising the use of raw materials and ensuring a perfect finish of the parts, will serve as input data for the digital twin to be developed by other partners in the consortium. The system will be based on spectroscopy, and given the complexity of the baths to be monitored due to the wide variety of components involved, ultraviolet (UV), visible (VIS) and near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy will be considered in order to characterise as many components as possible.
COMMERCIAL OBJECTIVE: By participating in this project, AOTECH would be able to take a first step towards entering a thriving industry full of possibilities where we currently have no presence, such as the automotive sector. This means opening up new business possibilities and clients and expanding our current market (aeronautics, food and pharmaceuticals).
ENVIRONMENTAL OBJECTIVE: With the development of the innovative monitoring system proposed in this project, the aim is to reduce the energy consumption of the electroplating process by 5% and the consumption of raw materials of its components by at least 10%. All of this will also result in a lower production of waste generated by these baths.
