BIOECD PROJECT. Biosensor for in-line e-coli detection in rinse water.
Thanks to the S3FOOD funding, we launch the BIOECD project. The scope of this project is to develop an optical biosensor to determine the presence of E. coli in the last rinse water during the Cleaning in Place (CIP) process of food processing lines.
The development of optical biosensors for the food industry is a key research line in AOTECH. This project would be the first step towards a disruptive product that could provide real-time monitoring of food safety.
Having a method that allows the rapid detection of pathogenic bacteria is of paramount importance in the food industry, and this method would be much better if it also allows detection in real-time and on the production line itself. With the BIOECD project, the food industry will be provided with a tool based on microbiological criteria (presence of E. coli) that allows guaranteeing the correct disinfection of its facilities, and therefore, the safety and quality of the products, which in turn increases consumer confidence.
Applying photonics to the food industry.
